How does Approov define a MAU (Monthly Active User)?

How does Approov billing work?

An active user (or unique device) is the unit by which the usage of the services is measured. An active user includes a mobile device on which a registered app has been launched or is running. Each mobile device on which any registered app has been launched is considered a separate active user (or monthly active user “MAU”) for billing purposes. This is NOT the same as a download and will typically be much less than the actual number of downloads (typically ~⅓ to 1/10th the number of downloads). Applications that are installed, but not actively used will not be counted as monthly active users for billing purposes.

An active user is measured per registered app, therefore:

  • A single mobile device with two different versions of the same registered app which have both been launched during the billing period will be counted as one active user (MAU);
  • A single mobile device with two different unique registered apps which have both been launched during the billing period will be counted as two active users (MAUs);
  • a single mobile device with a registered app which has been launched by four different persons during the billing period will only be counted as a single active user (MAU); and
  • a person using a registered app which has been installed and registered and launched on four different devices during the billing period will be counted as four separate active users (MAUs).
